CTC Suggestions / Re: A couple of suggestions
« Last post by DPump on March 29, 2021, 06:37:14 AM »
Version 5.3 includes a change in the block tool: the "Link nearby Objects" now places yellow dots in areas where a connection to another object has not been established yet. If you want to connect two of them, click on the appropriate dots (first with left then with right mouse button), and it will be done.

Also the Display only ("Other") has been modified with regard to text handling. It is now possible to select how the text is anchored, so that if you type in the text, the letters will be spread left and right if anchored in the center (default is upper left corner to be consistent with existing territories). Furthermore, defaults can be set for font style, color, size, and anchor, so if you add new text somewhere else, these parameters will be set accordingly. For existing texts, the current parameter can be overridden with the default - if you have saved them previously (you can set the defaults from any existing text object).

This simulator version includes the following changes/corrections:
  • Editor: Link Nearby now makes links not-so-nearby much easier
  • Editor: Disp Only Text can now be anchored in 9 different ways
  • Editor: Disp Only Text allows now user-defaults of text style (font, color, size, anchor)
  • Editor: Disp Only Text Font Dialog now indicates what font is currently selected
It is available for download at http://webrailroader.com/ctc/download-page/

As always the CTC simulator and upgrades to previously purchased territories are free.

General Discussion / Re: "Set signal to automatic" question.
« Last post by DPump on March 25, 2021, 11:42:28 AM »
I think I have discussed it somewhere, just too lazy to search for it right now, so here is the idea (to be implemented):
A function can be added to the trigger feature that could stack a route for execution - immediately or once the path is free. If such a trigger is placed at the beginning of a block, it could do the trick.

With some enhancement that mechanism could be set up to set different routes depending e.g. on the train type.

Finally, with the superblock construct, the trigger can be placed just a brake distance away from the exit signal, if the (overall super-) block is very long and you don't want to set the path for continuation right upon entrance but sometime later.

I'm aware of the automatic signals, but I was wanting to wait til a train gets in the block to approach the signal

CTC Suggestions / Approach Lined diamonds
« Last post by NW1776 on March 25, 2021, 07:39:27 AM »
Another feature that would be alot better is to enhance the "Automatic" aspect of signaling, where you set up a junction to only line up when the train approaches the interlocking, like at Rochelle, IL.

The diamond only lines a signal up when a train enters the approach block to the diamond, even though the diamond has been "requested" it won't physically line until the train activates it.

The Manual is now working again. Any further work will cause only short interruptions.

CTC Suggestions / Re: Random factors.
« Last post by NW1776 on October 10, 2020, 10:03:14 AM »
Would still be nice to see this randomization added into the simulator so you're not running trains all over the place without worrying if a train catches a hotbox, or a locomotive malfunctions along the route which makes you have to rethink your strategy as a train moving slower would need to be altered in it's operation to ensure it doesn't die along it's route. Crew changes/limits are desperately needed to be implemented as discussed before.
