General Discussion / Re: Toledo
« Last post by westdetroit on January 13, 2025, 07:10:50 AM »
Thank you Tom! My dad and I both had worked for Conrail, my dad was actually a tower operator in Detroit and I was a trainman. Anyways, yes, as you mentioned Toledo is not for the faint of heart. There's definitely a reason it is only 7 miles wide and about 9 miles high. Back in Conrail days it was a dispatcher's nightmare especially third trick (midnights) with all the van trains working the van site and crew changes downtown plus boats at CP Maumee. 🙂 And, as you mentioned the CSX loops the the south, east and north sides of Toledo (the NS completes the loop on the west side at Nasby (well back in 97 anyways that track is gone nowadays unfortunately). It's definitely one of my favorite territories. 🙂

Sounds great! Thank you Detlef. I'm looking forward to the active crew times and change. 🙂

Train Type Operators is a collection of train types that each crew can operate on, e.g. freight trains with different dynamics (like load coal train and empty train to return which are likely handled by the same crew), and each crew is such one of the train type operators. In essence train type operators data tells which type of trains the crews are qualified, certified, and trained for. The time for a crew to get to a crew change point is determined by the distance between the train crew office (which are located near one or more nearby blocks) and the block the exchange takes place. Any crew is either on a train, at an office, or near an office when not on duty. Offices are responsible for assigning crews of one or more train type operators, so one can be responsible for urban intercity trains, and another only for freight trains. Station stops have been enhanced for stops to allow crew change only, not for passenger or load exchange. If a crew change is placed nearby the block for some reason, the station stop for the crew change is not necessary and therefore can be skipped.
And yes, all is still in development

I think if I'm understanding correctly under the Train Type Operators it's to specify how long it would take a crew to get to a specific train for trains changing crews at non crew change points but wouldn't that be different for each block not train types due to the distance from the terminal to each block?

General Discussion / Train Type Operators and Crew Change Time

Hi Detlef. I noticed a couple of new features but not sure if they are operational yet.
1) In the Detailed Lists I noticed under Trains there's a new feature called Train Type Operators. What is that and is it operational?
2) Under station stops I noticed there's a new option for crew change time but it doesn't appear to be working yet or is it something I'm am doing wrong? Imagine that if I did lol

I haven't seen either in the manual, ir I may have overlooked it.

Hi Detlef. You can delete this post if you want. I probably done something accidentally. Have a great day and thank you for all you've done so far. 🙂

CTC Bug Reports / Re: Drawbridge Bug (an actual glitch)
« Last post by westdetroit on January 12, 2025, 06:48:56 AM »
I'm not sure what's going on I don't even think it's the speeds at the drawbridges but it's something because I'm not changinging the speeds in the detailed list. Here's exactly what I did. Wouldn't surprise me if I did it wrong lol:
1) created the "river" (making it a foreign line of course).
2) Change the length of the river, according to the boat speed and adance warning of the approach of a boat I found 8 mph and a 2 mile approach to be good for a 15 minute warning as I looked up ships travel about 4 mph through canals abd the speed due to the fireign trains lengths being longer than ships quite often (maybe in the future we can specify what is running on the foreign line but I understand it's a start at least) and I'll do faster speeds and shirter approach for bridges that see mainly boats not ships. Anywats
3) set speed as template for use on the "canal" on the other side of the bridge
4) paste speeds on the other sude of the bridge

But, I noticed my speeds are out of whack on territories without bridges so I must have done something accidentally ie like you said somehow edited a speed file. Sorry to have bothered you over most likely an error of mine. Take care. If you want you may delete this post too.

I would have to look at that. In general, the intention is when pasting a template to something, this 'something ' depends on which object you try to address. Pasting templates is just a shortcut to update several speed limits at once. However, the involvement of templates complicates this a little bit..

Hi. Not sure what you said when my drawbridge bug post was deleted but I'm only trying to point out there is definitely some kind of bug. I don't think it's just with drawbridges I believe it's anytime you set the speed template then you try to paste it changes the speeds in multiple blocks not just the block you changed the speed in. It shouldn't do yhat. I'm constantly changinging speeds in other areas that got changed too. I've created enough routes to know that's not normal. Just trying to help.

It has been verified now. If speed info is modified from the detailed info of a drawbridge (speed info button), only the speed limit of that particular drawbridge is modified and nowhere else. If you go to the speedlists in the detailed list panel and select either speed list block or speed list simple and modify a particular speed limit there, all objects using that speed list block or speed list simple will have their speed limit changed. As said before, these lists are shared, which saves memory and load time, and also gives you the option to change the speed limits of more than one object at once if these object share the same list. Of course you can change them individually one by one which could be tedious, but even then you could setup a template from one switch or block, and paste the template data to other objects as well.
