CTC Bug Reports / Re: Phone not working
« Last post by DPump on September 14, 2021, 06:24:43 AM »
This issue has been resolved via Email communication, but for the benefit of the general audience the resolution will be posted here.

Since CTC Release 5.4 the last window position of the phone conversation will be saved in the user's profile. The next time you want to use the phone, the window will be placed right there where it was located before. So it is possible you don't remember it, it may be mostly out of the desktop area, obscured, or just maybe on the other monitor if you run a dual-monitor system. It is also possible to minimize the window (like you do a layman's do-not-disturb by placing the handset next to the base in real life). In all these cases you can see the CTC phone window represented in the taskbar.

There is a general window's procedure to restore and move the window with just the keyboard.

Select the window using alt-tab or from the taskbar, make it non-minimized if it is minimized (move your cursor to a small pic that will appear just above the CTC phone entry in the taskbar). With the window now active, press alt+space and then "m". Use the cursor keys to move it around - you should see it eventually. Press Enter to settle.

This works for any window, not just for CTC. And yes, you can google it for further details.

CTC Suggestions / Re: Indicator boxes for switches and signals

Yes with the exception that boxes would appear around over switches locked by a lined route as well. Currently there's a bar like symbol over switches locked by a route.

The idea to show boxes where the cursor hovers seems to be taken from the traindispatcher,  am I right?

I have now developed a way to do just that, but there are still some details to figure out. However,  the box will show on any grid no matter what is in there. Also, it will work for the editor (the trackbuilder does not have it!)

As far as the  locked switches are concerned - I haven't made up my mind yet. I know at least for user-locked switches they're made quite noticeable in real life prototypes,  but especially for slip switches it can be quite crowded, since you have two switch motors and thus two user-locks in one grid element, which operate independently.

CTC Manual / Now with "Table of contents"
« Last post by DPump on September 12, 2021, 05:22:20 PM »
Due to development of other manuals like ours, a page with "Table of contents" has been added, with the section #0. "Introduction" remains section #1, which has the advantage that the TOC section is always present in the sidebar. So now with 2 clicks you can go to any page you want.

This improves the navigation inside the manual tremendously, that I wonder that I haven't done it much earlier! The sidebar remains as it is, with showing "nearby" sections of the current page to keep it short. The complete TOC is of course much longer.

CTC Suggestions / Spring Switches
« Last post by westdetroit on August 13, 2021, 06:46:27 AM »
Hi. I know you and I have discussed spring switches in the past. Just an option popped in my head after running my Dearborn desk. Can there be an option to set which route through the switch will be the "normal" position? Not all the normal position of spring switches is for straight rail sometimes, as in the case of the switch between the GTW mainline and the GTW Tunnel track at Milwaukee Jct. The mainline is actually the diverging track so its "normal"  position would be set for the diverging route. Just a thought for if spring loaded switches are implemented in the future. Speaking of which, the switch I just mentioned will now have a $ sign (which represents spring switches on my routes) on the revised 1997 Conrail Dearborn desk that I will be sending back to you in about a month and a half from now.

CTC Suggestions / Indicator boxes for switches and signals
« Last post by westdetroit on August 07, 2021, 08:46:46 PM »
Hi. Just wondering if it might be possible to have a "box" appear around each switch or signal when the cursor hovers over them to make it easier to select each signal or switch? Just my experience that sometimes I accidentally click on the wrong switch when two switches are side by side. Also, maybe have a "box" appear around each switch that is locked either by a route that is lined over it or locked by the user just to make them easier to see which ones are locked especially on larger layouts? I got the idea from the ATCS group that I am in.

Sounds good. Not sure if you thought about this, and I actually thought about this for signals running time as well, but I was thinking that it should take 3 to 5 minutes to "unlock" them as the purpose of them is to allow time in case there is an approaching train. Just a thought.

This feature has now been implemented and will be available in 5.7. The similar feature "default state of switches", available since 5.1, has also been fine tuned, e.g. inclusion in undo/redo scheme and the interaction with route testing.
