General Discussion / Re: CTC Download Link Broken
« Last post by DPump on June 07, 2021, 10:11:43 AM »
I just checked it now: The link from the 5.4 announcement in this forum to the download page and all download links on that page seem to work for me.

But maybe it was because the link was still using "http" instead of "https" and some browsers may not like "http" anymore. So I changed it to "https". Verified it still works for me (I use Firefox, but it shows now "https" in the link urls).

So please give it a try.

General Discussion / CTC Download Link Broken

I'm trying to update to v 5.4. There doesn't seem to the be a file behind the link. It's just dead for me.

CTC Suggestions / Re: CTC for operating systems other then Windows
« Last post by DPump on May 27, 2021, 10:35:00 AM »
I wish that, too.

Unfortunately, our resources area limited. Years ago, I had a system that could boot for Windows and Linux, but the Linux portion did not get much traction, and a CTC version for Linux never got beyond experimental state. So I put the focus on CTC for Windows.

As for making source files available - I would have to think about it what form it could happen. I know I would have to put CTC in broader support, including a eventual hand-over.

Hello. It would be nice if there wouold be avaliable for the other operating then just Windows. Eventually, there could be source files avaliable that that the Lixux user could compile it themself.

CTC Suggestions / Re: Muting the phone
« Last post by westdetroit on May 10, 2021, 10:10:02 AM »
Or a "tone", which would be very realistic,  with a screen with the train, maintainence, etc  who is calling "highlighted" in red. Then you can pick whoever you want to speak to at the moment, which is also realistic. This way you're not "tied up" answering a non urgent call. Just a suggestion.

You can "mute" the  phone by keeping it off hook. You can also answer the calls by responding to wait a little bit longer (default can be changed) in order to reduce the frequency of calls.

Popups seem to be not to be a realistic way to request communications from your virtual partners to you. I can be wrong, but I doubt that popups are used in the real world we try to simulate. But maybe we can add text messaging as a possible way of communications. Radio communications would be another possibility, however, it would be not so much different than using the phone (with the exception to be able to send a broadcast to all listeners), so that option was not pursued.

In a future version of CTC we plan to allow a no-call feature for stops at signals, possibly per traintype.

This is a much needed option to mute the phone and use a popup or something to indicate a train needs assistance. I have a few files I'm working on and during playthrough the phone gets to a point when it just won't stop ringing off the hook.

CTC Suggestions / Re: Approach Lined diamonds
« Last post by DPump on March 30, 2021, 10:16:58 AM »
This sounds like a new trigger function.
Keeps me thinking ....
I mentioned already automatic routing based on train type. However, it would not really fit the bill in the diamond situation, since it would be possible to set a route on the same track in the opposite direction up to the diamond. And it would not cover signals that are automatic by being invisible on the layout.
It seems like more a case for delayed clearing of signals. There is already functionality in CTC that can help: due to priority rules routes are automatically extended (as automatic signals work in CTC) only if nothing is else to do with regard to routing. Because of the low priority blocks are held up to prevent opposite routing - see  http://webrailroader.com/ctc/traffic-direction-block/ note (1). This is a feature in CTC since around version 3.21.
Now the new idea is to hold the reservation of the direction just a little bit longer. For how long? Well that's where the trigger comes in. You can place the trigger anywhere you want - at the beginning of the approach block or a block before that.
How does this sound?
