Submitting territories from TD3
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:34:53 AM »
Just joined this forum. Long time user of TD3/TB3 and looking forward to seeing how this program will grow.
My question concerns if you welcome users submitting TD3 territories to be converted to CTC and what rules govern what can be accepted by CTC (owned by submitter, designed by submitter, etc)?

We haven't finalized the details yet, but in simple terms we will assume that you have the right to submit a territory - and you confirm that with your submittal.

Generally, you have some access right to a TD2/TD3 territory, if you have the TD3 software - otherwise you wouldn't be able to see what it is. You can run "free" territories and modify them (if you have the track builder). If you think about CTC as an additional possibility to run territories besides using the original TD3, you'll get the general idea. As for territories that are marked "for sale" you would have to prove that you actually have the code for it. We won't use the code for anything else than just for verification purpose.

The procedure will be something like this: You submit the TRK file (TD2 or TD3). We create a regular CTC file, but the FREE and STD version will have the track layout only, no schedule, so you and everyone else can see the layout, set routes etc., but not run any trains. The FULL version will have the schedule. You can buy the FULL version for $5 ("free" territories in TD2/TD3) or $10 ("for sale").

In essence, that is a $5 or $10 fee for conversions of "free" or "for sale" TD2/TD3 territories, respectively, with a free preview (without schedule) before you purchase it.

This FULL license is for you only. Other CTC users can have a preview as described above, if you make it available to them, but not run any trains since there is no schedule. (You cannot generate a FULL license for any other user - only we can do it.)

That is, if you want to keep everything for yourself.

If you want to share it, contact us again, whether you want the schedule - or part of it - available in the FREE or STD version, whether you want us to post the territory on our website, and so on. (Remember, FREE is available to everyone at no cost, STD is available to everyone who have purchased our general license).

And finally, there are some TD3 features we're planning to implement into CTC, but since they are not there yet, the conversion will be incomplete with regards to these features. Once we have worked on a solution to map the feature into our data layout, we will run the conversion again at no additional cost.
